Raising Resilience #14
Episode 14
Wednesday, 6 December, 2023
In episode #14 we listen to Siobhan Argyle; she works at TIGERS, an organisation in Glasgow, Scotland, aiming to create opportunities for young people who have disengaged with education. The name is an acronym and stands for Training Initiatives Generating Effective Results Scotland, and offers trauma-informed social care through different means, such as training, leadership and partnerships, childcare, mindfulness sessions, and other stress regulation modalities. Siobhan is the Eduction Manager at TIGERS and was impressed by the cover of the children’s book on trauma called ‘The Little Iceberg’, written by Nicky Murray, illustrated by Sylvia Lynch, and published by Suzanne Zeedyk’s ‘connected baby’-organisation. (ACE Aware NL reviewed this beautiful book on its website.) Siobhan thought things over and felt that the book deserved to be turned into a musical in order to reach a broader audience and serve as an extra tool to bring the message of trauma healing across in a very accessible way.In this conversation, we take a look at how it all came about, how Siobhan could use her musical talents to write songs for this project, how closely related the book is to Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry-approach and how supportive such a gentle means is in addressing the many facets of trauma. There is both a lot of laughter and a lot of serious exchange and pondering in this episode and we trust that the Scottish accent will give a lovely flavour to this conversation!
