Tomas Fox - The man with the Tashkeel tattoo
Episode 46
Wednesday, 16 December, 2020
This is my favorite episodes to date. Today I had the good fortune to speak with one of my dearest friends, my little brother Tomas Campos Fox. I’ve known Tomas since he was a 14 year old grom attempting handplants on the ramps of Tashkeel. He is now 24 years old and grown into an eloquent, thoughtful, and dedicated artist and skateboarder. We discuss Tomas’ current state of affairs, where he wants to go in his artistic endeavors, and the impact Tashkeel had on him as a young adult. For those of you who don’t know Tashkeel www.Tashkeel.org is an arts hub located in Nad al Sheba Dubai. It was started by Lateefa bint Maktoum Al Maktoum as an incubator for promising artists in the Middle East to enhance their skills through creative collaborations and access to a wide variety of tools and resources. Tomas and I wax poetic on this place that is steeped in skateboard lore, discuss the impact it had on both of us, and how we can use those experiences to carry the torch forward for future generations of youth to express themselves as creatively and beautifully as possible. It truly was a golden era in the developmental years of many a young boys and girls in Dubai. Please excuse the weird audio syncing as Anchor.fm is messing up and I can’t fix it. Sooooorrrryyyyy
