There are geographic disparities in accessing abortion, whether on a county-level, regional level, or state by state basis. A large reason for this disparity seems to be state laws that make it harder for abortion providers to stay open and state laws that add more hurdles, such as waiting periods, for the person seeking an abortion. These disparities disproportionately affect women of color, low-income women, young women, and women in rural areas. Difficulty in accessing abortion seems to be increasing in the United States.
