More Than An MD aims to highlight diversity within the healthcare field and discuss adversity faced by pre-meds, medical students and physicians. We dive into various topics including taking multiple gap years, facing rejections from programs, being an international student, dealing with financial hardships, having children during residency, doing poorly in exams, mental health and so much more! We hope to inspire people to pursue a career in medicine despite their background; whether they identify as first generation, low-socioeconomic, underserved, underrepresented, non-traditional, POC, international and/or LGBTQ. Dr. Daniel Indorato was born and raised in a suburb outside of Boston, and graduated college with a B.S. degree in medical sciences at The University of Tampa. During his undergraduate years, Daniel travelled throughout Europe and South America, as well as volunteering on three international medical mission trips. After college, he attended medical school at American University of Antigua in the Caribbean, where he graduated this past winter. Now, Daniel is pursuing a residency in Anesthesiology at Cook County in Chicago, IL. Following his residency training, he is planning to do an Interventional Spine and Pain Medicine Fellowship and start his own private practice while pursuing his dream of starting a non-profit international medical relief organization. In this episode, Dr. Daniel Indorato discusses his non-traditional pathway to becoming a physician, including transferring colleges, attending medical school in the Caribbean, overcoming body issues, dealing with financial hardship and so much more.
