Off We Go! is written and created by Early Childhood Education expert and childrens media writer, Marisa Lark Wallin and award-winning podcast creator, Maggie Robinson Katz. Each 7.5-minute episode is thoughtfully created to include an upcycled, easy-to make craft, using materials that are accessible to most. Following early childhood standards-informed methods of guided play, the episodes are narrated in the present-tense, with each listener as the main protagonist. Children are encouraged to imagine their surroundings using all their senses, move their bodies, and in each episode, help a different animal solve a problem using the tool they created. Off We Go! Episode 5- Coral Reef
Tuesday, 5 May, 2020
For this episode, we'll be making a snorkel. We use a snorkel to help us see and breathe underwater. Our snorkel has two parts: goggles and a breathing tube. To make our snorkel, you will need paper, a straw, and tape. Ask your grownup to help you cut one long strip of paper, big enough to wrap around your head, and two smaller strips of paper--to make the eyepieces. Take one smaller strip of paper and curl one end to the other--to make a circle. Tape it together. Do the same for the other smaller strip of paper. Then tape those two next to each other, so they look like glasses--or goggles. Then tape the longer strip of paper from one end of the goggles to the other, to make a strap that goes behind your head. Then tape your straw to one side of the goggles to make a breathing tube. One side should be able to fit in your mouth, and the other side should be up in the air...to help you breathe!
