Please Don't Say My Name

An audio documentary on the plight of Burmese refugees in Malaysia.

Author: Karen Zusman

Please Don't Say My Name is an audio documentary produced by Karen Zusman in June 2009 on the plight of Burmese refugees in Malaysia. The refugees tell the story of life in Burma-why they had to flee-and why their lives are still at risk in Malaysia. The story exposes a little known fact-refugees from Burma have been rounded up by a vigilante citizen group known as the Malaysian RELA and sold to human traffickers by some members of the Malaysian Immigration Department. Sad, spirited and sometimes funny, discover how this group of friends share family--like bonds which sustain them in an absurd and cruel circumstance. Covers raids, Buddhist chants, detention camps, and interviews with trafficking victims, leading human rights activists and a UN spokesperson.
