Since before America declared independence, the practice of making promissory oaths was an essential binding component that established a relationship between leaders and the people. It wasn't just a word spoken, but rather was a covenant made between leaders and those they represent, with God as the overseer in the matter. With the understanding that God is supreme governor and judge over the actions executed by humanity, a promise made with God as judge meant that the promise maker declared an understanding for the inevitable repercussions of their actions if they were to break their word. This fundamental component to the American governing system has been stripped of meaning overtime, and its consequences are obvious since there is a growing distrust for the people representing us in governing positions. If we are without trust, what are we left with? What are we freedom loving, Christ followers to do about this monumental issue? That's the invaluable question.
