International Women’s Day 2020
Episode 1
Sunday, 8 March, 2020

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate and recognise the accomplishments and contributions of women around the world. Not long ago, there was a time where women couldn’t vote, couldn’t purchase property, or own a bank account in their own names. Granted, there are still parts of the world wherein these rights have yet to be enjoyed, however, we are in a better place than we were 50+ years ago. Nevertheless, even while celebrating and recognising our achievements, it is important to note where the experience of women must improve. The Wise Collective is partly an acronym for “Women inspired solutions for empowerment.” With this in mind, in addition to our fight against gender-based violence, we advocate for the economic empowerment of women too. Listen to the first episode of the Wise Talk podcast, wherein Onica Nonhlanhla Makwakwa and Brenda Madumise-Pajibo discuss all matters economic empowerment and introduce the African Women In Trade & Business Expo.
