Living Sacrifice: Responding to God's Mercy with a Surrendered Life

What does it truly mean to give God our lives? Romans 12:1-2 challenges us to move beyond surface-level faith and into something far more radical and transformative. Paul opens this chapter with a single word that carries the weight of eleven chapters of gospel truth behind it: 'therefore.' Because of everything God has already done for us, because of his mercy, his grace, his faithfulness even when we have failed him, there is a response being called out of us. That response is not a transaction or a checklist. It is surrender. Paul paints a vivid picture by borrowing the language of Old Testament sacrifice, asking us to present ourselves as living sacrifices. The tension in that image is striking and deeply personal. A living sacrifice can crawl off the altar. And if we are honest with ourselves, we do exactly that. We surrender on Sunday and take control back by Monday. This message calls us to examine which parts of our lives we are still holding back, and to consider what it would look like to lay them down completely as an act of genuine worship.
