Just War Theory Challenged by Pope Leo XIV & Palestinian Rev. Munther Issac
Episode 262
Monday, 29 June, 2026
Rev. Dr. Munther Issac of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem analyses Pope Leo XIV's Magnifica Humanitas in this 13-minute video and agrees with him. After all, aren't the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank victims of a "Just War" or just another war on Israel's enemies?. This is from a National Catholic Reporter editorial: "Pope Leo XIV says just war theory is outdated. Catholics should take heed. In Magnifica Humanitas, his first major encyclical, Pope Leo does not treat war as one moral problem among many. He places it within a broader crisis of humanity. He sees an age shaped by technological dominance, artificial intelligence, economic control, militarized politics, weakened international law, and a public imagination trained to believe that war is inevitable." Should other Christians, who have embraced the Just War theory in the past, still agree with a doctrine that originated with St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, two early Catholic theologians? To better understand the plight of Palestinian Christians and their Muslim neighbors, Rev. Issac is interviewed by two Jewish journalists in "Palestinian Pastor's Plea for Help From American Christians." Here is a WHTT podcast: "Jesus: Prince of Peace or Author of Just Wars?"
