Secure w/ Rick Dunham
Many Christians don't understand the true nature of stewardship. Instead, they equate stewardship with tithing giving a portion of what they have to God and keeping the rest to do with as they please. But biblical stewardship starts from a completely different place and, when properly understood, can provide a security like none other the kind of security every human heart longs for. In Secure, Rick Dunham, PresidentCEO of DunhamCompany, recounts his own journey through financial hardship, even coming to the point of near bankruptcy. He believes that tough economic times should be a wake-up call to the Church like they were to him, challenging Christians' consumer-driven outlook. "Money promises a security it can never deliver," he writes. "Our hearts have been seduced and ensnared by the promise of freedom, peace and security when in fact, money only turns our hearts away from fully following after God and His purposes." The Secure Podcast - Episode 3
Thursday, 23 January, 2014
“Many of Jesus’ words about money involved warnings. Jesus recognized that the chief competitor to our dependence on Him is our money. When we have enough cash, food, and possessions, we can become self-reliant. Therefore, money is not seen by God as a benign and neutral thing. Money is power, and power competes with God for supremacy in our lives.” – Rich Stearns, President, World Vision US and author of The Hole in Our Gospel writing in the introduction to Secure: Discovering True Financial Freedom Money is one of the most powerful forces in our life. In fact, it’s always been that way. Going back thousands of years, Isaiah warns the people of Israel to not be enamored with the wealth of the nations around them because of how it will seduce them. In this latest podcast I talk a little about my personal “epiphany” and how God led me to scripture to better understand money’s seductive power to lead me away from Him.
