America's Bloodiest Cabin - Brunckow's Cabin
Friday, 28 June, 2024
Happy (not) National Arizona Day! Oops, it actually was last week, but I had to tell you this story! Near Tombstone, Arizona, the final boom town of the US mine rush, there lies the ruins of a structure that holds the morbid title of "America's Bloodiest Cabin". Where approximately 22 men lost their lives over the course of just 30 years. Frederick Brunckow, a silver mining entrepreneur, built the adobe shack in 1858 when he found silver near the San Pedro River. After just two years of operation, the mining came to a screeching halt when three men were found slain in and near the cabin. More than one owner of the cabin lost their lives in brutally traumatic ways, in addition to several more men falling victim to old west gun violence. Graves were said to just appear on the property as men disappeared. According to newspapers in the 1880's, spirits began appearing on the property and even working in the abandoned mine, and they weren't quiet about it! If you want to enjoy a themed drink, may I suggest the new Arizona Hard Iced Tea?! This episode contains a trailer for the podcast, Candlelit Stories.
