If you want to watch the entire video, please consider becoming a subscriber.It is not an exaggeration to suggest that when Democrats decided to make healthcare the central focus of the Republican government, they changed the trajectory of American politics.Democrats were always going to be in a good position for the 2026 midterm election, but their position upgraded from good to great because of the way that Republicans have refused to extend the popular Obamacare subsidies and gone out of their way to dig the political hole even deeper.Consider that no one was talking about healthcare as a top issue before the government shutdown in the fall.The latest AP/NORC poll found that healthcare is now the top issue for voters in 2026.The AP reported:About 4 in 10 U.S. adults named health care or health issues in an open-ended question that asked respondents to share up to five issues they want the government to work on in the coming year. That’s up from about one-third last year.…The poll shows a similar landscape to the one Trump faced at the end of his first year in office during his first term, when health care reform was at the top of many Americans’ minds. But Trump has an added complication now. At the end of 2017, very few mentioned cost of living concerns — now, about one-third do.Healthcare is now a bigger issue in the eyes of voters than affordability. The question is, how did Democrats, who began the year as a hopeless political party, turn the entire political landscape on its head?Read more below.
