Urban sociologist Talja Blokland (Mecila Senior Fellow, 2024) speaks with professor Eduardo Marques (Centro de Estudos da Metópole - USP) about conviviality, inequality, and urban peripheries. They discuss his translation of Brazilian sociologist Lucio Kowarick’s book Urban Spoliation, São Paulo’s urban development, and the role of infrastructure in reinforcing inequalities. Marques also reflects on translating urban theory and shifts in inequality over time.
