More Than An Athlete of the week 3 Tips for those who want to work with athletes Shawn Lazarus BIO Shawn grew up in a town where football was worshipped. He feel in line with the Ohio and Michigan rivalry. He eventually would play for Michigan and become a stand out defensive player. He later signed with Detroit Lions. Shawn suffered a knee injury with Detroit and it left him answering some questions. Shawn believed that football would make him a successful man. I indulged in all that that lifestyle had to offer – parties, money, risks, attention, and inappropriate relationships. Those consequences were about to cost me everything and everyone I cared about. That’s when I began realizing that TRUE HAPPINESS and FULLFILLMENT only come through Jesus Christ. Shawn has been a financial adviser, a juvenile officer, and a business owner since he retired from his playing career. He married his high school sweetheart Molly and since then they have had six children (Olivia, Abram, Ashlyn, Iris, Eden, Maizie) together and he is heavily involved in the Akron/Canton area community through his local church, TEAM JAM, as former Safety City Director each summer in Canal Fulton, and as chaplain of the Akron Rubber Ducks minor league baseball team.
