Ana Cristina: friend, theatre maker, banana
Wednesday, 17 May, 2023
Today I sat down with artist and theatre maker, Ana Cristina Schuler Da Silva. An NYU graduate, she’s been making art and dodging rats in NYC for 10 whole years. Ana and I worked together in catering back in 2018 for a little extra cash and a whole lot of free food, but now she works as a professional organizer. Side hustles aside, Ana is a true thespian. She wrote, produced, co-directed and starred in “The Chickens Have Come Home to Roost.” The painful and hilarious 90 minute play is about a childhood imaginary best friend, Birdie, who happens to be a chicken. Birdie is by Angie’s side as she goes through puberty, has her first kiss, and is sexually assaulted by a friend of a friend. The show incorporates original music, movement, and puppets. It was a huge success! Now that it’s been a few weeks, Ana reflects on the financial aspects of producing independent theatre and shares her future plans for the show.
