#92 - Why Running Away Won't Fix Your Problems - Short Episode Experiment
Tuesday, 25 November, 2025
I recently returned from a trip to Rome, Italy, which reminded me of the illusion of the "geographical cure." This is the belief that changing my location will solve my problems, especially when it comes to addiction. During my nearly two decades of dealing with mental health and addiction issues, I found that I could abstain from getting high while on vacation or in a foreign country. However, this was only temporary relief. The real issue lies within me—my internal coping mechanisms and my inability to deal with life's challenges. Moving to a new place doesn't change that. True healing comes from developing new coping strategies, seeking support, and focusing on internal transformation. It's about taking responsibility for my life and building a meaningful, joyful existence. The geographical cure is an illusion. Addiction is not about the substance, but about internal coping mechanisms. Moving to a new location won't fix internal problems. Recovery requires internal change, not just external relocation. Support systems are crucial for overcoming addiction. Coping skills are essential for dealing with triggers. Healing is possible through responsibility and honesty. It's important to recognize what you're running from. True change comes from within.
