Progress from a Black experience
Episode 1
Saturday, 8 November, 2025

Meet Janet, a nurse and ONA member working in mental health. She is also Black. In this episode, Janet tells stories from her 30-year career, including what it's like to work in a mental health care setting, using her Jamaican culture to connect and work with patients, navigating racism and discrimination from colleagues and managers, and how she became an activist with her union. If you want to talk about your own mental health, check to see if you can access an Employee Assistance Program through work or find help through BeyondSilence.ca, a mental health support tool developed by and for health-care workers.
