In this hour-long podcast, Dr. Adler Perotte, a faculty member at Columbia University’s Department of Biomedical Informatics, discusses the current state art of artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in today’s evidence-driven medicine. Perotte illustrates multiple examples of observational AI solving several contemporary medical problems, including prediction of adverse cardiovascular events, forecasting chronic kidney disease progression using EHR data, and diagnosis detection using natural language processing of medical notes. Perotte additionally discusses specific areas in medicine that stand to benefit optimally from AI, as well as AI’s limitations and future directions in medicine.
