Mixed Emotions by Brian NorwoodThe Best In Chill & Deep House. Author: Brian Norwood
DJ Brian Norwood was born during the first seedlings of dance music as we know it today were sprouting. In the 1970s, the Tea Dance at Fire Island's Blue Whale was settling in as ritual and David Mancuso's infamous "The Loft" parties in NYC were just getting started. Being born in the music-rich environment of Nashville would be a harbinger of things to come. And being born in that era would greatly impact his career. In the 90's, Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, would open its arms to Brian. This move to a more urban environment and being within the twinkle of NYC skyscrapers, is an important transition not only in geography, but of musical awakening. After attending a seminal Saint-At-Large Party with all its intendant revelry, he felt an overwhelming drive to cultivate music and learn to mix. Vinyl was still the preferred medium for DJ's, which gives Brian the unique perspective of being among the younger DJ's still spinning today who teethed on vinyl. In the 90s Brian began to play live shows. His ability to feel the energy of a room and to zero in on what crowds want to hear quickly gained him major name recognition that spread from Philadelphia to the entire nation. Over the last 25 years the notable gigs he has played are too many to count, but include events in every major American city and as far away as Maui, Hawaii and Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 2011 he began podcasting for the ability to reach even more listeners. His Mixed Emotions by Brian Norwood podcasts have been streamed hundreds of thousands of times and continue to be a major asset to his musical career. The sets that have been the most recognized of his work are Sophisticated Morning, Sophisticated Deep, and Sophisticated Chill. These sets are just as their name implies: percolating, hazy, gently rising to an alert state. However, to those unfamiliar with his breadth of music, it would be unfair to characterize him as a chill only DJ. It is unlikely that you would have heard music and mus Language: en-us Genres: Music Contact email: Get it Feed URL: Get it iTunes ID: Get it |

Hello, dear listener. I hope you've been well since I last dropped in to see you. You've probably noticed that I've been quiet for a minute. In short, life has been life-ing, and I've been being human. Many years ago I told myself (and anyone else who'd listen, haha) a couple of things: first, that I'd give music to the world until the day I die. That's a promise I know I'll keep. Second, that I'd always stay true and authentic as it relates to my artistry and I would never release music just for the sake of having something "new" up at the moment. The quality of my content is much more important than the quantity of it. So...I've been quiet, concentrating on being and staying grounded and nourishing my soul through some interesting times we're in. As they say though, there's always sunshine after the rain. Let it shine...Let's talk about music. Even though it's been spell since you've seen new content released by me that doesn't mean that I haven't been over here endlessly finding the most beautiful new music to present to you. Speaking of new music, wow. We are in such good times for music right now. I believe that because of the "tough times" we're living through that humanity at large is needing comfort and joy. That is showing up with a return to rich and emotionally-driven melodic music. You'll find the best of that here on this new set. Each of my sets fall differently as it relates to the ebb and flow of the energy. Sometimes the set will peak late, sometimes earlier. It's my belief that this set kind of peaks in the middle of the set (and that's OK!). There IS a cohesiveness from beginning to end, so I'm not concerned about where the "peak" is. But about that peak...wow. I have a string of songs that are epic masterpieces. As I sit and type these words I'm listening to that set within this set and I am covered in chill bumps. I hope you'll feel these same "feels" as me. Pay close attention to the set once I get to "Start A Fire" by Above & Beyond. After that I go through Coastlines "Everything All At Once", Aname "Hopeful", WhoMadeWho "Bedside", Topic "I Adore You" and Anthony Keyrouz "Young And Beautiful" -- all powerful masterpieces.Above & Beyond dropped a new album today, July 18th. I present two of the singles from the album (Start A Fire and Quicksand) because of how good they are and also so I could talk about the album. Go listen to it. Run. It's a beautiful collection of heart-driven masterpieces. Start A Fire is probably my favorite single from the album. Featuring Richard Bedford on vocals, it starts chill and low in energy and steadily builds into a hands-to-heaven emotional anthem.Enough with my words. On to the music. As always, this set was conceived and mixed with every ounce of love that I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears. LOVE.Artist/Title/Remix01. Gheist/Searching Places/Original Mix02.
