The Age of Acrimony (with Jon Grinspan)
Episode 4
Saturday, 15 May, 2021

Episode 4 - Modern American politics is characterised by divisiveness and partisanship, but the Smithsonian's Political Curator at the National Museum of American History, Jon Grinspan, understands that this isn't a new phenomenon. He joins Lewis to discuss polarisation in American politics from a historical perspective. His new book 'The Age of Acrimony' explores the parallels between today's divisions, and those from the late 1800s to early 1900s, where political violence was at an all-time high, and Americans had to trade participation for civility to calm the national mood. If you'd like to get in touch with Jon about his book, politics, or history, you can reach him at grinspanj@si.edu.
