Thursday, 23 September, 2021
In this podcast, we are happy to host two guests who are advocates from Kenya and Uganda sharing their experience on employment injustices and how to eradicate them in the workplace. Kevin Kwasa is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and also a Partner from O & M Law, Kenya. Linda Alinda - Ikanza is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and also a Partner from Amber Solicitors & Advocates, Uganda. Our moderator is Brian Bright, from Wakili.sha Initiative, who leads this conversation on employment discrimination in the workplace. This conversation tackles: Defining discrimination. Highlighting common forms of discrimination in the workplace. What's the impact of employment injustice on employees? What are some challenges that are faced in protecting the rights of employees? How do employers make sure that there's a balance between productivity and protecting the rights of employees? Where do aggrieved employees go to in the event that they face discrimination/other employment injustices? Other than the courts, why is it important to have ADR mechanisms put in place to handle employee grievances? How do employment laws accommodate non-discrimination in the workplace practically? How are employees protected? What more accommodation can be made to cater for all?
