Almost seven million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and two-thirds are women. Alzheimer’s disease often starts subtly with a memory slip, lost word, or forgotten appointment. In fact, changes in the brain can happen 20 years before symptoms even appear. That’s why early detection and diagnosis are so important. For patients experiencing memory and thinking issues, there are FDA-cleared blood biomarker tests that can help detect the buildup of proteins in the brain, that can lead to the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Memory and thinking issues that come with age may be slight at first and can be easily dismissed, but for some, these changes become more common and can progress over time. Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease in patients experiencing symptoms can lead to more options for planning, support, and care.
