中国大陆气候的一个非常重要的特性是冬夏气温受季候风影响，中国大陆整个冬季被西伯利亚南下冷空气覆盖，比西欧和北美同纬度地区寒冷许多。而葡萄又是一种不耐寒的作物，中国北方的葡萄产区种植的葡萄，很难像在欧洲有那样好的条件生长发育。葡萄藤不能茁壮成长，从而进一步限制了葡萄果实的品质，使得中国在高端葡萄酒领域很难有所做为。
