Jerry explains how in 1918, the Babe beat the Spanish flu, also known as influenza, twice even though it took the lives of more Americans than the Civil War. Ruth, then with the Boston Red Sox, was hospitalized in the spring but recovered and went on to star as a pitcher and hitter.
