What Is Your Business Really Building?
Episode 185
Friday, 21 August, 2026
Sometimes the business question you’re asking isn’t the decision you actually need to make. Maybe patient volume has dropped. You’re wondering if you should raise your prices, switch to a membership, take back the discovery calls you delegated, or finally try that new marketing strategy. These are important questions—but they can also keep us busy tinkering with the business without asking the bigger question: What am I actually trying to build? In this episode, I share a recent Catalyst session where we uncovered the hidden decision underneath one practitioner’s business concerns. I also introduce five types of businesses: 1. Lifestyle Practice 2. Legacy Practice 3. Exit Practice 4. Enterprise Practice 5. Employed Practice Each one requires different decisions about growth, revenue, time, leadership, and risk. The goal isn’t to choose the “best” model. It’s to recognize which one supports your values and the life you want to create. Before you make your next business decision, ask yourself: Is this helping me build the business—and the life—I actually want?
