Queer RecollectionsAuthor: Will Hecker
QUEER RECOLLECTIONS explores contemporary Queer British History, with flair, curiosity and purpose, by speaking to those who have lived it and those who are preserving this fragile heritage. At present, the subject isn't widely taught, physical queer spaces are closing, and much of this history remains overlooked. To rectify this, I (Will Hecker, a documentary filmmaker) speak to DJs, archivists, activists, and historians who are working to preserve, celebrate, and share British queer history for all to discover. Stonewall and a lifetime of interfering with Lisa Power
Friday, 27 November, 2020
Lisa Power, co-founder of the gay rights lobby Stonewall, HIV/AIDS activist, and self-described “serial interferer” in LGBTQ rights, speaks to Queer Recollections about her lifetime of activism. In our conversation, we consider how Margaret Thatcher’s anti-gay Section 28 galvanised the movement in the late 1980s, the founding, controversy and influence of Stonewall, political lesbianism, and the striking parallels between Coronavirus and the AIDS epidemic.
