Global JournalistAuthor: Jason McLure, Stuart Loory
Global Journalist, a 30-minute audio program focused on international issues and international journalism, ran for more than 20 years on KBIA and online. It was created by Stuart Loory, who worked as a foreign correspondent and editor for Chicago Sun-Times and CNN before joining the Missouri School of Journalisms faculty as the inaugural Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies. Under Loorys direction, the show featured well-known reporters from discussing issues from across the globe. The program later continued with a focus on under-covered issues with Jason McLure as its host. The Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies has partnered with MOSpace, the University of Missouris digital commons, to create an archive of Global Journalists programs, with special emphasis on the previously undigitized recordings of Loorys shows. The archive includes show transcripts (searchable by keyword), as well as .wav and .mp3 files available for download. As the U.S. finished its formal withdrawal from Afghanistan last month, many expressed outrage as the country fell quickly to Taliban forces. For the 20th anniversary 9/11, Global Journalist's Sean Brynda spoke with three veterans in Missouri and journalists around the world to look back on the war's impact at home.
