EP476 // Is Your Plate Too Full? Mom Burnout Fix: How to Say No, Delegate, and Stop Doing It All
Episode 505
Tuesday, 15 September, 2026
Quick question for you: when was the last time you felt truly caught up? And I don't mean "I answered the urgent emails" or "the laundry is technically under control." I mean actually, fully caught up — like you could exhale. If you're sitting there thinking, um... I have no idea, friend, you are not alone. And today I want to talk about exactly why that happens — because it is not a problem. It is a capacity problem. And capacity problems can be fixed. Here's the thing I have been sitting with lately. For years, when I saw an exhausted mom, I assumed the fix was a better schedule. An earlier bedtime. A tighter morning routine. More organization. And listen, you know I love a good plan. But the more I work with busy moms — and the more honest I get about my own life — the more I am convinced that sometimes the problem is not that we do not know how to manage everything. It is that we are trying to manage too much. Too many responsibilities that were never fully ours to carry. Too many tasks that "only take five minutes." Too many things we automatically pick back up, even after we handed them off. If you are curious about this try tracking your time by doing a time audit. Count the number of times you caught yourself doing a task that was already someone else’s job. Not something only you could do. Already delegated, and somehow back on your plate anyway. These are tasks like empty the dishwasher, do the dishes, put away groceries, start chopping veggies, sort the laundry, fold the laundry, pick up the living room, etc. . So today's episode is all about that gap — the difference between delegating a task and actually transferring ownership of it. We are talking about why saying yes feels so much easier in the moment, why "it will just take five minutes" is one of the sneakiest traps in a mom's day, and the practical, real-life way to start taking things off your plate for good — not just in theory, but in a way that actually sticks. This is such a practical episode, and I think you will walk away with at least one thing you can hand off this week — for real this week — that will make your days feel lighter almost immediately. So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let's dive in Quick Announcement The fall is a busy time. If anyone is in Denver and wants to meet up this week shoot me an email.
