On October 1, HB 580 takes effect. It strips Alabama's faculty senates of the power they have spent decades accumulating and gives universities a process to review tenure and remove faculty with cause. Auburn moved first and didn't wait. The University of Alabama, whose faculty senate Apryl Marie Fogel calls the most ideologically captured in the state, is keeping theirs.
