Episode 26 - Behind the profile: financially motived sexual extortion
Episode 26
Thursday, 22 October, 2026
In this episode of The Beat, we discuss the increasing and evolving problem of financially motivated sexual exploitation. The National Crime Agency (NCA) says that financially motivated sexual extortion is usually carried out by organised crime groups (OCGs), often based overseas, who are typically motivated by money. These groups target all ages and genders however, a large proportion of cases have involved male victims aged 14-18.To help us understand more about financially motivated sexual exploitation, the signs to spot and how to make a report, we spoke to Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Burns, of our child protection and exploitation team.
