Confronting the Return of Communism & Antisemitism in the US
Episode 145
Tuesday, 21 July, 2026
In this episode, Carl reflects on a summer that showed America at its best, and warns about a current running beneath it. Fresh off the 250th anniversary of the United States and a World Cup that drew hundreds of thousands of visitors, Carl shares what he's been hearing and why it's pushed him to speak out. Visitors from Europe and beyond left saying America was nothing like the country described in their home press. But alongside that pride, Carl points to a darker undercurrent: rising antisemitism and growing sympathy for communism among younger Americans, which he traces to decades of educational failure. A generation raised without strong historical literacy, he argues, has no framework to evaluate the ideologies it's being handed. Drawing on his memory of standing in Berlin in November 1989 as the Wall came down, Carl runs through the twentieth century's record on communism (the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, Cambodia, China) and argues it ended in mass death everywhere it took root. He revisits Joseph McCarthy, saying history has vindicated warnings once dismissed, and draws a parallel to how small, organized groups, from the Bolsheviks to the Nazi Party in 1930s Germany, seized control of nations despite representing a small minority. Carl turns to the present: a Democratic Party platform he says now includes eliminating the Senate, restructuring the Supreme Court, ending private property rights, and slashing defense spending; concerns about election integrity, citing a recent Los Angeles race; and the decision to eliminate Iran's nuclear capability as a necessary check against extremism. He connects the erosion of Judeo-Christian foundations, including churches he feels have drifted from scripture, to a broader loss of moral clarity. Carl closes on a personal note: rather than despair, he's taking his grandson to lunch to talk through what the younger generation actually knows, framing it as a responsibility every American shares. Invoking the Founding Fathers ("we stand together, or we hang alone"), he asks listeners what they're going to do to pass on the truth. 🎙️ In this episode: ➡️ Why the World Cup and America's 250th Birthday Revealed the Real Country ➡️ The Return of Communism and Antisemitism — and Why It's Not New ➡️ A Grandfather's Charge: Educating the Next Generation Before It's Too Late Connect with Carl: Instagram Facebook LinkedIn YouTube Produced by: Social Chameleon
