BeringiaAuthor: Mac Ellis & Dawson Zulz
Created in late 2020 by Mac Ellis and Dawson Zulz, Beringia is a podcast focusing on diverse stories and making connections both with people and topics.Beringia explores subjects both contemporary and historical, all the while trying to examine them via a bottom-up approach and helping to amplify largely ignored perspectives.Season 1, consisting of episodes 1-7*, covered January through September* of 2021 before Beringia entered an indefinite hiatus due to schedule challenges. These episodes are preserved for transparency, though it is recommended to begin with Season 2, as the organization, tone, and perspective have greatly developed following the 2-year interim period.*On some platforms, S1E7, covering September of 2021 is still available, however, it was not thought to maintain the same quality of the other episodes. What does the intersection of social justice and education mean for students and teachers alike? How might a holistic approach to learning be integrated into the system as it exists, and what impact could this have on contemporary issues? In this season's premiere, Mac Ellis explores education with Dr. Jason Hendrickson of LaGuardia Community College, including the evolution of the various perspectives and outlooks surrounding higher education as a concept, and different approaches toward obtaining and providing an education. Special thanks to Dr. Jason Handrickson for joining us!
