Taking Note is a music podcast by Scottish fiddle/piano duo Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach. Each episode features a unique collaboration and conversation with a guest artist from across worlds of folk, classical, jazz and electronica. The podcast is a celebration of new music, creative processes, and a wide range of artistic voices. The guest artists - friends, colleagues, musical heroes, are asked to bring the seed of an idea to the table. Over the course of a day-long writing session, this was developed into a complete piece of new, collaborative music. Each writing session and the new music created then became a podcast episodeThe podcast allows the listener the rare perspective of becoming a fly on the wall of the rehearsal room. Our pilot episode! We recorded this way back in autumn 2020, whilst in residency at Snape Maltings supported by Britten Pears Arts. We spent a week testing ideas and basically figuring out how the Taking Note podcast would work.Our guest and guinea pig for the week was the wonderful Owen Sinclair. A talented multi-instrumentalist, and member of the bands Tannara, Inyal and Westward the Light, he helped us shape the podcast into the form you’ve heard over this series.
