One of the most notable pagan festivals that influenced Easter is the Saxon festival of Eostre, honoring the goddess Eostre, who represented fertility and the renewal of life. The Christian celebration of Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as described in the New Testament of the Bible. The timing of Easter is linked to the Jewish holiday of Passover, as Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection are believed to have occurred around the time of Passover. Early Christians adapted existing spring festivals and infused them with Christian significance, making Easter a celebration of Jesus's victory over death and the promise of eternal life. The tradition of Easter eggs and the Easter bunny also has pagan origins.
