In an episode of the Sepro podcast you shouldn’t miss, Andrew had the privilege of sitting down with John Steen, the director of the Bradshaw Research Initiative in Mining and Minerals, senior editor of the Project Management Journal, as well as the EY Distinguished Scholar in Metals Futures. John takes us through the history that led him to being a leader in innovation in mining from his time in Tasmania and Queensland until he ended up at the University of British Columbia. John's specialty is in the management of innovation: how are solutions found in complex organizations with thousands of people all over the world? The findings of several of John's studies are explored, looking at the cultural aspects of problem solving within companies, the relationship between big resource companies and their supply chains, and the allocation of risk. As well, we get detailed insight into the work John is doing at UBC looking at energy infrastructure, water, sustainability of the mining industry, and how he is dedicated to bridging the gap between experts in this area and the mining industry.
