For Episode 68 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing local activist and community builder, Rick Toledo! Rick has been doing great work for our community on campus and off. He has been organizing with the Humboldt chapter of Students For A Democratic Society at Cal Poly for the last few years, and we spoke about some interesting topics! Rick talked to us about the Occupy Cal Poly movement and what happened on campus last year when the students occupied Siemens Hall in solidarity against the genocide that has been happening in Palestine. We talked about the law enforcement response, with law enforcement responding from up and down the state to slow down the movement. spoke about what SDS Humboldt has been doing since, including how they have continued the movement to get Cal Poly Humboldt to divest from military industrial corporations. In the second hour, we talked about quite a few topics including the beautiful work our friends from Humboldt 4 Palestine have done for our community, and we also spoke about other activism and groups that have been making things happen in Humboldt County. To end the episode, we discussed the newly formed Humboldt Anti-War Committee and the work that has begun to push local governments to divest from war and imperialism. This was a great episode and it was my pleasure to interview Rick and have him in the studio!
