Across a span of 17 years with the BBC, he contributed to prominent BBC News platforms such as BBC News Channel, BBC Newsnight, and various BBC Radio services. Notably, he hosted the morning radio show within the Persian Service for several years. Ali holds the distinction of being the first openly Iranian gay journalist to report on stories concerning the community from within Iran.
