Kasten am Mittwoch - Design Podcast

Author: Kai and Jakob

We are two industrial designers, Kai & Jakob, who graduated from the University of Wuppertal. In this podcast, we want to share stories from our daily lives as designers and bring the topic of design closer to you. We'll show you what goes on in our workday, but also what happens outside of design. How did we get into this? What do you actually do as a designer? And how quickly can you down a case of beer? Well try to answer these questions and hope you enjoy listening and maybe even drinking along!

63_NOTHING IS BETTER THAN APPLE?!_
Thursday, 5 March, 2026

Hey there! We finally met in person again. We caught up on our recent experiences and talked about my trip to the art supply store. We discussed our favorite pens, sketchbooks, and painting tools. We explored the idea of timeless design and shared our thoughts on why some products stay relevant for decades. We talked about clarity, purpose, and honesty in design, and we questioned how much space designers really have to create lasting work. We also discussed design awards, weighing their value for visibility against the challenges and pressures designers face. Later, we dove into the Nothing Phone and analyzed its bold, transparent aesthetic and what it means for the design community. Cheers!
