This podcast, which can also be accessed via the Jenesse4Hope mobile application available in The App Store and Google Play, provides information and resources about domestic violence and Jenesse Center, Inc., the oldest nonprofit domestic violence intervention program in South Los Angeles. The Center was founded in 1980 by five African American women who were survivors of domestic violence. The call comes at any hour day or night--a family in crisis needs immediate shelter and safety. Women and children arrive with only the clothes on their back and desperation in their eyes. Jenesse Center offers a safe refuge and a strong support system to mend their shattered lives. Twenty-four hours a day7 days a week52 weeks a year our shelter stands ready to accept families affected by domestic violence. Our mission is to provide victims of domestic violence with a comprehensive, centralized base of support to assist them in addressing their immediate crisis and changing the patterns of their lives.Our program philosophy is based on the following principles:(a) Domestic violence is a family issue(b) Women and children are our primary clients(c) Clients should receive culturally sensitive and culturally competent services(d) Children are equal victims of domestic violence(e) Clients must receive more than shelter they must receive life skills(f) Services must transform victims into survivors(g) Services must be provided to populations that are generally turned away elsewhere(h) Public opinion and public policy must be impacted to combat domestic violence. Jenesses culturally and ethnically sensitive services include a 24-Hour Crisis Hot-line 800-479-7328, Drop-In Center, and Six Shelters (an emergency shelter and five transitional facilities). Services are provided in English and Spanish. Jenesse has a renowned reputation for serving victims of domestic violence with extenuating circumstances that other providers cannot adequately serve.
