Having and Using Your Voice featuring Ahmanise Sanati, LCSW
Episode 1
Thursday, 7 January, 2021

Our inaugural episode features an interview with Ahmanise Sanati, LCSW, who is running as a democratic delegate in AD 62, West Los Angeles.  Ahmanise speaks fervently about the importance of social workers' voices, knowledge and expertise influencing politics.   Ahmanise believes in the power of running to enhance her already passionate activism for social justice and advocacy for the underserved.  We explore why social workers may not feel compelled to get involved politically-"we are burnt out!" Ahmanise also speaks about her own mentor and the NASW-CA Region H mentorship program that propelled her journey into running to become a delegate.   We talk about the importance of representation by our political figures, based on Ahmanise's own identities as a mother and community organizer, and how she integrates these two roles by involving her children in community service and rallies.   Connect with Ahmanise by visiting her Facebook page: @AhmaniseforDems Please hit the subscribe button to receive new episodes of the Surviving Social Social Work in California podcast!  The podcast is featured on Instagram and Facebook @surviving_sw_ca, where we hope to do live chats, and want to hear from you! Also note that we are accepting ethics or profession-specific questions to receive a live consultation.  These issues can relate to professional ethics, job conflicts or supervision-related matters.  These consultations do not replace, and are not meant to be regarded as legal advice or psychotherapy.
