Michel Serres: Contracts with Nature

Michel Serres: Contracts with Nature

Author: David Webb

These podcasts are some the material given to students taking the module Contracts with Nature, which is part of the MA in the Philosophy of Nature, Information and Technology at Staffordshire University. The MA is delivered by distance learning and you can find more information about it here https://bit.ly/3htZNDt or by contacting me directly at d.a.webb@staffs.ac.uk. The podcasts are not general introductions to the work of Serres - if they were they would be quite different. Rather, they reproduce notes intended specifically to support the reading we're doing in this module. In the module as a whole, we'll spend four weeks reading The Natural Contract, followed by four weeks on selected passages from two of Serres's other books, The Birth of Physics and The Incandescent. Then we're reading sections of Bruno Latour's book Facing Gaia: Eight Lectures on the New Climatic Regime, followed by some of Down to Earth: Politics in the New Climatic Regime, and then works on and related to ecocriticism by Serenella Iovino, Vicki Kirby and Karen Barad.
