Hit-and-Run Leaves Man Dead, Woman in Critical ConditionA man has died and a woman remains critically injured after being struck by a trash truck in Northwest Washington, D.C., police say. The collision occurred around 2 p.m. Friday at Georgia Avenue and Upshur Street in the Petworth area when the vehicle hit both people, who were on an e-bike, and fled the scene. Authorities later located the truck in Hyattsville, Maryland, and have identified the driver, though no charges have been filed yet. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact detectives. Proposed PG county’s missing persons bill honors Dacara ThompsonA Prince George’s County Council member introduced DaCara Rose’s Law to honor DaCara Thompson, the 19-year-old found dead after going missing last August. The bill would clarify that law enforcement must accept missing-person reports immediately, with no waiting period, and raise awareness of cases involving Black women and girls. Thompson’s mother and local leaders support the measure as a way to help prevent future delays in investigations. Hugo Hernandez-Martinez faces multiple charges, including murder, in connection with Thompson’s case and is set for trial in September.
