Josh and Cody unpack this clinical practice theory of Audacity. Cody posted a few months, this topic and here is what he said in the post.Audacity is having the balls to make a decision, when you know you need to make it, with only your thought processes and clinical judgement to defend you.Why, because blindly following a protocol that was not written for the exact situation you are in… is stupid. That is reckless and careless. Why? Because if you merely find the title of a protocol that “matches” the complaint you are dealing with, you are not collecting dots. You are forcing the patient into a box they may not belong in. In so doing, you doom them to suffer treatments from a recipe that does not even fit their problem.You are a clinician. You have to develop the situation and develop a gestalt or an impression.When you have to defend yourself. This is how you do it.“Here is the picture I made with the dots I collected. That is what drove the decision.” —> this avoids outcome bias. When people understand HOW you made the decision they tend to focus a lot less on the RESULT of the decision.You highlight and defend the thought process, NOT the result. You don’t control the result, you only control your responses to the information you gathered.You also cannot judge YOURSELF by the outcome. You hold the mirror up to the integrity of your process, how well you crafted a solution, and how well it was executed.
