The San Antonio Spurs are almost back to basketball, and at Media Day the players spoke to the press for the first time since their unexpected run to the NBA Finals ended in agony. Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle and Mitch Johnson all spoke about how they processed the latest chapter in their journey as a team after a summer of reflection.Hosts Tom Petrini, Aaron Blackerby and Zach Montana all made it out to the Victory Capital Performance Center for a first look at these familiar Spurs who have grown a lot.Wemby is the 2K cover athlete, the easy MVP favorite, the face of the league soon if he isn’t already, and he is. He spoke about how the wound from the Finals still hasn’t closed, and how the bar is even higher this year. We asked him about starting this season as a title contender, with the target squarely on this team’s back.Tobias Harris is the new addition to the roster, and in his first appearance before San Antonio’s assembled media he broke down how he fits and why he came: to win a title.Dylan Harper is a huge talent who could start for most teams, and he made some waves in a brand new GQ story where he joked (or serioused) about wanting to start. Harper spoke about his ambitions and competitive edge, and everyone from him to De’Aaron Fox and Mitch Johnson seem to agree it’s all a good problem to have.
