Concrete Pastures PodcastAuthor: Nancy Mulemwa Siisii
The word immigrant to so many like me, it signifies someone with a dream; a dreamer. I am Nancy Mulemwa Siisii. I was born and raised in Zambia, Africa, but I later migrated to America and settled in New York where Ive been living for 20 years. As a dreamer, I have and continue to have a passion for making substantive bonds with audiences, and helping to inspire people to reach for their dreams. Being an immigrant has been one of the most challenging and extraordinary experiences of my life. It inspired me to start my podcast Concrete Pastures: An African Immigrant Story as a platform to reach out to fellow immigrants and dreamers. S6 Ep 13 Daphne Kasambala Empowering Africa's Creative Craft and Design Sectors
Episode 123
Tuesday, 24 February, 2026
Daphne Kasambala is an impact-driven entrepreneur working at the intersection of creativity, technology and inclusive trade. Her journey spans continents and disciplines, shaped by an early career in investment banking and retail across Europe, where she developed a strong commercial grounding and a deep understanding of global markets. Over time, Daphne became increasingly drawn to the creative economy and to the untapped potential she saw across Africa’s craft and design sectors. This led her to found Meekono, a pan-African B2B wholesale platform and enabling ecosystem that supports craft and creative enterprises—particularly women- and youth-led businesses—to access global markets. Through Meekono, Daphne has focused on bridging the gap between talent and opportunity, combining digital commerce, AI-driven product development and mobile-first upskilling to help makers become market-ready and globally competitive. At the heart of her work is a belief that African creativity is not a niche, but a powerful engine for jobs, cultural preservation and inclusive economic growth. Daphne is passionate about building systems that work for marginalised communities, ensuring technology opens doors rather than deepening exclusion. Today, she continues to build partnerships across Africa and beyond, driven by a vision of a more connected, equitable and globally visible African creative economy.
