Canned Air #575 Jungle Red! A Conversation with Illeana Douglas (Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Seinfeld)
Thursday, 15 October, 2026
This week, Jeramy sits down with legendary actress and film historian Ileana Douglas to discuss her fascinating new book, Jungle Red: The Making of MGM's The Women! Ileana opens up about her unique family history, including her grandfather Melvin Douglas, and the incredible perseverance it took to survive the brutal world of acting schools, the inspiration for her role in Ghost World, and how she came to play George's very tan mistress on Seinfeld! We also take a deep dive into the behind the scenes drama of MGM's 1939 film The Women, which featured over 130 women and not a single man on screen. Ileana explains the intense rivalry between stars Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer, the physical toll of the movie's famous cat fights, and the surprising way being fired from Gone with the Wind actually saved careers. Whether you are a fan of classic Hollywood or want to hear about a some of Illeana's iconic roles, don't miss this episode!
