Episode 5
Tuesday, 4 August, 2026
From sun safety and sexual health to tackling vaping and promoting healthy eating, Katherine ‘Kat’ Cacavas is passionate about helping people live healthier lives. As Senior Health Promotion Officer with the Gold Coast Public Health Unit, Kat spends her days working with communities to deliver health messages that connect, inspire action and make a real difference. On the back of the Senate’s prevention meeting, we caught up with Kat to chat about her work, the challenges of encouraging healthy behaviours, and how she helps break down barriers to accessing important health information and services. We also hear about Kat’s career journey as a dietitian, which has taken her from Melbourne to West Africa, Australia’s Red Centre and now the Gold Coast.
