The Laws of Exclusion, Cleanliness, and Miscellaneous Laws
Wednesday, 4 November, 2026
Deuteronomy 23 addresses three distinct legal categories governing Old Covenant Israel: laws defining who may enter the assembly of the Lord, purity regulations for the military camp, and a collection of miscellaneous civil statutes. The sermon works through the passage expositionally, attending to the theological rationale behind each category while acknowledging the interpretive distance between modern readers and ancient Israelite civic life. Main points: - laws of exclusion — who was barred from the assembly of the Lord and why - cleanliness laws governing the military camp and the holiness required by God's presence - miscellaneous laws covering slavery, cultic prostitution, vows, lending, and the rights of neighbours Scripture references: - Deuteronomy 23:1-25 - Nehemiah 13:1-3 - Acts 8:26-39 - Romans 10:12-13 - 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 - Galatians 3:28 Free Grace Baptist Church — https://www.freegrace.ca Full transcript & sermon notes: https://sermons.freegrace.ca/sermons/bible-study-deuteronomy-23-the-laws-of-exclusion-cleanliness Description generated by Tyrannus.ai: https://www.tyrannus.ai
