Season 7: Episode 5: Russia: Elderly Korean Missionary Sentenced
Friday, 6 November, 2026
In January, Ms. Park Tae-Yeon planned to return to her home country of South Korea after ministering to children for over 30 years in eastern Russia. However, one week before her scheduled departure, Ms. Park was detained by Russian authorities and charged with immigration-related offences. Recently, the 70-year-old follower of Christ was sentenced to five years and eight months in a general-regime correctional colony. Closer to the Fire host Greg Musselman is joined by Dr. Eric Foley, CEO of Voice of the Martyrs Korea, who explains why the immigration charges may not be the true reason behind such a harsh sentence. He also discusses how Ms. Park’s arrest and conviction serve as a warning to Protestant churches and missionaries throughout Russia.
